When the New Year Begins in June

Today is a special day around the Avodah home.  It’s the beginning of our new year!

 We’re celebrating seven years of dreaming big and stepping out in faith together!

To commemorate the occasion, we’ll be watching our wedding video with the kids, and telling them the stories of our early years.  But to truly mark the day, we’ll take the opportunity to recount the happenings of the past year, noting what we’ve learned, how we’ve grown, and all that we have to be thankful for.  Our wedding anniversary is a time for us to take an inventory of what we love about each other, and begin a new year of walking together – and all that living, working, and being in the state of two-as-one entails.

{Hopefully a date will follow sometime soon!  :) }

Married friends: how do you celebrate your anniversary?  Do you have any special traditions?

Jessica is a Renaissance woman with many facets and a convoluted story. She is a collector, a curator and a communicator of beauty, as well as a a purveyor of the riches of the written or spoken word. She is the author of Muthering Heights and Other Senseless Sensibility, where she lives her own story – wandering her heart chambers and reveling in the Glorious Minutiae of life as a woman, a wife, a mother, and an opponent of Fibromyalgia. Oh yeah…she’s also married to Jordan, owner of Avodah Coffee. ;)

    Happy anniversary. We like to get a way for a day or two, without the kiddos. I love my kids, but raising teens and tweens and working full time is hard. We love to go down to the ocean, walk on the beach, watch the sunset!

    Happy Anniversary! Year 7 is a statistical milestone in today’s society (just in case you didn’t know that tidbit!)

    We generally try to get away for a night or two somewhere special. This year, we celebrated early and went to be guests at our favorite morning radio show! Left the baby for TWO whole nights!

    I love how y’all specifically take time to “inventory” the year! I’ll have to tuck that away for future use!

    PS: Beautiful photo!!!

    • A statistical milestone? Wow…I had no idea!

      Your tradition sounds fun! I might have to tuck *your* tip away for future use! ;)

        Yes, sadly, most new marriages do not make it past year 7 these days. :( Statistically, if you can make it past year 7 you will almost certainly make it for the long haul!

        But I know you aren’t trusting in statistics for your marriage. :)
